To make the move easier on pets, the following may be helpful:
Keep your pet’s routine as close to normal as possible.
Have the number of a veterinarian in your new city, just in case an emergency arises.
Make sure to have necessary pet supplies for the trip.
A pet carrier for dogs and cats can give you peace of mind when transporting your pet. (If you have a dog or cat that you want to keep safely confined on moving day, get a carrier ahead of time and gradually accustom your pet to spending time in it.)
ID your pet with your new address. Have a recent photo of your pet on hand should your pet become lost.
Acclimate your pet for the road trip.
Locate hotels along your route that are pet-friendly in advance.
Have an updated copy of your pet’s vaccinations in case you need to show them at a hotel or kennel during your trip.
Have all the familiar and necessary things needed for your pet on day one in your new home readily available.
