Is It Possible To Pack Up A Home In As Little As Three Days?

Careful, Fast & Courteous

Whether you’re a procrastinator who waits until the very last minute to tackle must-do’s, are making a last-minute move, or simply a homeowner short on time, you may be waffling on when to start packing up your home for a big move and wondering if you really can pack the whole house up in as little as three days. While the short answer is yes there are certainly some considerations that must be… well considered. Read on as we unpack this topic.

What do we mean when we say three days?

According to industry experts, it can take 3-5 days to pack up a three-bedroom home. Of course, that’s dedicating ENTIRE days to the task leaving room only for fueling and recharging (i.e., eating and sleeping). If you’re thinking you’ll put in a couple hours each day for three days- you might as well throw in the towel now; there’s no way you can pack up the whole house with that commitment level.

Now if you want to pack up your home in the aforementioned timeframe, we’ve got a few suggestions and strategies we think will help you reach your goal.

How to pack quickly

Though the headline for this particular section mentions packing quickly, we must urge homeowners not to rush through packing. Going at a break-neck speed will likely result in you breaking your belongings either as you pack or during the move because they were not packed correctly.

Gather supplies in advance

To pack quickly and properly, start by assembling all your moving boxes and packing supplies ahead of time. When packing day comes and you have everything you need right at your disposal, you’ll be able to work through the packing process at a faster clip.

Go room by room

Rather than dart from room to room grabbing up picture frames here and knickknacks there, focus on one room at a time. Not only will it keep you focused, but it will also make unpacking much easier too. Once one room is finished, move on to the next.

Label boxes

This particular tip goes hand in hand with the previous one- as you pack up boxes be sure to label them with the room and even a brief description of what their contents are as that will also alleviate stress in the new place.

Leave everything inside dressers and desks

To really save time, you can leave clothes in your dressers and items in your desk drawers. This is very effective UNLESS your furniture and the items inside them are heavy. If that’s the case, you will want to remove at least some of the belongings.

Keep clothing on hangers

Rather than remove clothes from hangers, fold, and pack, leave your clothes on their hangers. To keep them organized you can purchase wardrobe boxes or use large trash bags with drawstrings.

If using a trash bag, cut a small hole in the bottom and feed hangers through it. Once all the clothes are in, tie the bottom.
